Rockaway Beach, Oregon just 12 minutes away has a great array of shopping including a sweet shop, beach supply store, and gift boutiques. Department stores like Walmart and T.J. Maxx are less than a 2-hour drive. Grocery shopping is available at Mohler Co-op, Nehalem Food Mart, and Manzanita Fresh Foods.

The nearby museums are diverse and encompass a great collection of subjects. In Cannon Beach, Oregon, you'll find the Lost Art of Nursing Museum, a private museum dedicated to nurses with vintage advertising, illustrations, music, and other media celebrating the legacy of nurses. Found between the bay and the ocean is Nehalem Bay State Park, a popular destination for birdwatching, hiking, and kayaking. You may even see someone crabbing or clamming while at the park. Nearby Sunset Beach State Recreation Park spans 120 acres and has a beach for strolling or enjoying the water. Cape Meares National Wildlife Refuge is the place to visit if you want to see wildlife such as elk, deer, sea lions, and harbor seals in their natural habitat. Off in the distance, you may even be able to spot a pod of migrating gray whales from the refuge. Several trails run through the forest and give guests a chance to see two of Oregon's celebrated trees or the state's shortest lighthouse. Wheeler's two city parks are just as fun and scenic as the state parks. Upper Park features playground equipment, picnic facilities, horseshoe pits, and walking paths. Waterfront Park is nestled on the water and gives you panoramas of the coastline.
