Longview is served by four school districts and Longview Independent School District (LISD) is the largest in the area. The district serves most of the city and contains 16 schools.  LISD is a diverse and well-regarded district that puts a lot into its students. Within the last three years, LISD built and opened the largest Montessori Academy in the nation, offering free Montessori education to children 3 to 5 years old. The district also includes three nationally-certified STEM schools and is one of the few districts in the nation that offers IB (International Baccalaureate) programs for its students.  LISD has also received 40 distinctions on Texas accountability ratings, the highest achievement in the region. District test scores show that 52% of students are proficient in math, and 42% are proficient in reading, plus the district has been named one of the top 300 in the state by Niche.com. The wooded location of Longview means you never run out of ways to enjoy the great outdoors. Longview is home to Lake O'the Pines, a lake spanning 16,919 acres and surrounded by pine trees. The Martin Creek State Park is 20 miles from Longview, and is open year-round for paddling, fishing, hiking, water-skiing, and lake swimming. Longview boasts a great park system with multiple splash pads, playgrounds, disc golf courses, and other amenities. The Kidsview Playground has several interconnected play structures with castles, bridges, and swings, and equipment to enjoy. At the park are also 5 pavilions, a play area, and a splash pad. More than 10 other parks are in the area and because they're open daily, they provide the perfect place for families to play. During the hotter months, you can visit the large Jack Mann Splash Pad with its three themed splash areas, or Longview Swim Center.
