The Career Growth I Was Longing For - Zarah Mae

March 23, 2020

Each month, the PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor Team selects one or two spectacular A-players on assignment to showcase their journey. We asked our healthcare professional to share his or her story of perseverance, adjustment and professional growth.

Zarah Mae is from the Philippines and is currently working at a client facility in New Mexico. She has been working in her field for 13 years and has been working for PassportUSA for almost 2 years. Why did you decide to become a physical therapist? "My mother suggested that I study physical therapy because she saw my niece with cerebral palsy, attending her physical therapy sessions. Later on, I realized I would love to be a physical therapist!"Before coming to the U.S., where did you practice your profession? "Before coming to the U.S., I worked in a government hospital for children in the Philippines. I was in the pediatric physical therapy practice for almost 10 years before I moved here."Why did you want to come to the U.S.? "I decided to come to the U.S. for career growth, better opportunities, and financial stability. My sister and her family live in the U.S. too and I look forward to visiting them."How did you first hear of PassportUSA/Health Carousel? "Most of my college batchmates were working with Health Carousel in order to live and work in the U.S. They recommended that I sign up with Health Carousel too."How is your experience working with your PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor (IES) so far? "It is a pleasure working with my IES, Jordan. She is responsible, prompt, and friendly. She is always available to get in touch with me whenever I have questions."Would you recommend PassportUSA to other people and why?"Yes! I definitely recommend PassportUSA to my colleagues and other healthcare professionals because they take care of their people very well. PassportUSA/Health Carousel made sure I had the correct and sufficient documents for visa filing and they still regularly communicate with me."How does working in the U.S. differ from your healthcare career abroad? "In my present job, I am able to practice physical therapy more independently in the hospital. I get to practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and I get to practice aquatic therapy too!"How have you grown professionally? "I have grown professionally by being able to practice my profession across a wider range of ages with a greater spectrum of medical diagnoses."How has your life and your family's life changed for the better? "I have found the career growth that I was longing for. Also, I am on track with my financial goals so I am able to help my family more."[caption id="attachment_354502" align="aligncenter" width="634"]
