Honored to Work Here - O'Brien, MT

November 30, 2020

Each month, our International Employee Supervisor Team selects one or two spectacular A-players on assignment to showcase their journey. We asked our healthcare professional to share his or her story of perseverance, adjustment, and professional growth.O'Brien is from the Philippines and is currently working at a client facility in California. He has been working in his field for 20 years and has been with PassportUSA for over three years. Why did you decide to become a medical technologist? "I was drawn to the images of MTs working in the lab, wearing their white lab coats while sitting in front of microscopes. I wanted to be like them one day so now I am one of them."Before coming to the U.S., where did you practice your profession? "Before coming to the U.S., I was working in Saudi Arabia for more than 15 years as a lab specialist in blood banking."Why did you want to come to the U.S.? "There are two main reasons why I wanted to come to the U.S.: One, I wanted to work in a country where I can be myself and do what I want as long as it's in accordance with the law, and two, I was able to bring my family to the U.S. with me."How did you first hear of PassportUSA? "My wife told me about PassportUSA/Health Carousel when she came across their Facebook advertisements and she told me about it one day. When I checked it, some of the people that I knew were providing their testimonies on their page and that's when I knew that it's really legitimate."How is your experience working with your PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor so far? "I have had the opportunity to work with several IES during the years but my current IES, Angela, is really the best. She epitomizes what a supervisor should be like. She is very understanding, passionate and really shows genuine concern and care for us who are under her care. It's an honor working with her."Would you recommend PassportUSA to other people and why? "I would definitely recommend PassportUSA to other people because I experienced how it is working with them. PassportUSA is an agency that is really true to their word and is fair and honest when it comes to dealing with their employees. It's really a blessing for us who are from abroad to be working for a company where we can be at peace knowing that we can trust them with our futures."How does working in the U.S. differ from your healthcare career abroad? "Working here in the U.S. is different from my previous work abroad because here I am treated fairly in terms of compensation and benefits."What is your favorite inspirational quote? "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." -Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher
