Each month, our International Employee Supervisor Team selects one or two spectacular A-players on assignment to showcase their journey. We asked our healthcare professional to share his or her story of perseverance, adjustment and professional growth.Misha is from the Philippines and is currently working at a client facility in Maryland. She has been working in her field for 10 years and has been with PassportUSA for almost 3 years. Why did you decide to become a physical therapist? "My father encouraged me to take up physical therapy in college. I have learned to love and appreciate it as I got more involved with concepts and started helping patients."Before coming to the U.S., where did you practice your profession? "Prior to coming to the U.S., I worked at a private clinic in my hometown in the Philippines. We provided inpatient, outpatient, and home health services to patients of various ages and a range of conditions."Why did you want to come to the U.S.? "I wanted to come to the U.S. because I knew that it would grant me more opportunities for professional growth. I finished my Doctor of Physical Therapy in my first year here and have since taken other continuing education courses to improve my knowledge and skills."How did you first hear of PassportUSA?"I first heard of PassportUSA/Health Carousel when they came to a job fair at my school in the Philippines. Many of my classmates applied and were assisted by Health Carousel to achieve their dreams of working in America."How is your experience working with your PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor so far? "I appreciate my IES because she sends me reminders and provides resources about life in the U.S., and it was particularly helpful in the first few months when I was starting to establish myself here. I am grateful that even though we live in different states and are on different time zones, we manage to keep a good working relationship."Would you recommend PassportUSA to other people and why?"I definitely recommend PassportUSA to other healthcare professionals who want to pursue their American dream. They are a very supportive community so you won't go wrong with them."How does working in the U.S. differ from your healthcare career abroad? "Working in the U.S. is remarkably different from my last job in the Philippines because there are nurse aides and I am more independent with patients in my practice."How have you grown professionally? "I have grown more confident in my professional skills. I am proactive in seeking answers to my clinical questions and I am empowered to help my patients."How has your life and your family's life changed for the better? "My life has definitely changed for the better since working here in the U.S.. I have discovered if you work hard and keep at it, you will reap the benefits beyond belief."What is your favorite quote? "My favorite quote is from the Book of Jeremiah 29:11 that says: 'For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"[caption id="attachment_354185" align="aligncenter" width="382"]
