We asked our healthcare professional to share his or her story of perseverance, adjustment, and professional growth.Ma Carol is from the Philippines and is currently working at a client facility in Georgia. She has been working in her field for 10 years and has been with PassportUSA for over one year.Why did you decide to become a registered nurse? "Early on in life, I was a very sickly child which meant that I had frequent trips to the hospitals. Because of this, I saw nurses very frequently, and probably my traumatic experiences back then somehow planted that interest in me. As I grew older, my fondness for these medical professionals grew further as I became so allured by the white uniforms, nursing caps, and their distinct poise even amidst a very tasking job.Aside from the rewarding nature of the job, becoming an RN gives me the potential to enjoy stable work opportunities. The world is changing. Today, technology is taking over some jobs. However, as the nursing profession requires the core of what makes us human-- paying attention, being empathetic and caring, so RNs will never be replaced by technology."Before coming to the U.S., where did you practice your profession? "Initially, I worked in the Philippines for two years where I earned my experience in different areas of nursing like Labor and Delivery, Medical-surgical and the Isolation units. By then I started to soar high and worked abroad as an ED nurse for two yrs in Saudi Arabia, then five years in Abu Dhabi, where I got the chance to handle both the adult and pediatric population in a Transitional Ventilated Unit and ICU."Why did you want to come to the U.S.? "America is fondly regarded as the Land of Milk and Honey, and my new life here is a testimony. At present, I am very much enjoying this experience that I share with my family here in the U.S."How did you first hear of PassportUSA? "After I passed NCLEX, I posted my resume online on some job sites. Then PassportUSA reached out to me and helped me pursue to work and migrate to the U.S to make my American dream come true."How is your experience working with your PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor (IES) so far? "The IES that I have been working with was not just a supervisor for me but a friend as well. She exudes in her professionalism and this was displayed with her consistency and systematic approach to work. I felt her empathy and support as she attended to both my personal and professional needs. This was especially true during the peak of the pandemic, where I was asked to work at the COVID unit, she never seemed to tire from checking on me and making sure I had everything I needed to get by."Would you recommend PassportUSA to other people and why? "It's never a doubt to recommend PassportUSA to other people because honestly, I admire how organized, structured, and prompt they are especially in facility placement and assisting me to have a safe and smooth transition here in the U.S. With their help, I was also able to bring my husband and my daughter together with me without any trouble."How does working in the U.S. differ from your healthcare career abroad? "Being a nurse here in the U.S. brings about a high sense of fulfillment. I feel more valued and dignified as a professional. The work environment fosters a culture of employee recognition for the contributions that I bring to the team. I am grateful that my colleagues are very appreciative. They see me not only as an employee, rather as someone who creates a difference in the entire organization. Here in the U.S., there is a myriad of opportunities to better one’s career, through skill enhancement, which raises one’s confidence notch higher, which therefore opens better avenues to maximize a professional's potential."What is your favorite inspirational quote?
