Unlocking My US Nursing Potential - Jennyfer

August 21, 2020

Each month, the PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor Team selects one or two spectacular A-players on assignment to showcase their journey. We asked our healthcare professional to share his or her story of perseverance, adjustment and professional growth.Jennyfer is from the Philippines and is currently working at a client facility in North Carolina. She has been working in her field for 9 years and has been with PassportUSA for almost 2 years. Why did you decide to become a registered nurse? "My family has always been in the medical field and my brothers and mom inspired me to become a nurse by always making me involved in their conversations of how they help people, how their day goes inside the hospital, and how fulfilling it is to be able to make someone feel better and care for the sick.My passion for becoming a nurse became stronger when I went to serve in a community health center in the Philippines and we taught health education to people in the area. It's amazing how a simple patient education can enlighten someone on how to take care of themselves."Before coming to the U.S., where did you practice your profession? "I used to work in several clinics in the Philippines including outpatient and emergency departments around the Metro Manila area. I had an amazing time working in the ER because the adrenaline rush is just incomparable."Why did you want to come to the U.S.? "Working in the U.S. has been a childhood dream for me and my siblings. We have always wanted to widen our horizons and learn more about our profession and other countries' cultures."How did you first hear of PassportUSA?"My brother, who is also a Health Carousel candidate, referred me to PassportUSA and we entrusted our future to them. My sister-in-law also applied to PassportUSA and is currently working on her visa filing papers at this time."How is your experience working with your PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor so far? "My IES has been wonderful! She finds solutions to my queries and makes sure I am always caught up with requirements and certifications. With all of the chaos and busy work, it's very easy to forget to update our certifications but Celesta is very prompt to remind me about getting it done in a timely manner."Would you recommend PassportUSA to other people and why?"Absolutely! I rate PassportUSA a 10/10. PassportUSA has been a huge help in honing my career as a nurse here in the U.S. They are very prompt to help my family with our needs, especially when we first arrived to the U.S. I've never had any problems with PassportUSA. They will always offer you a solution. Also, the pay and benefits are outstanding and competitive."How does working in the U.S. differ from your healthcare career abroad? "Working as a nurse in the U.S. is different from when I was working in the Philippines because of the technology. For example, in the U.S., everything is documented electronically, which reduces the chance of human error and negligence."How have you grown professionally? "Working as a USRN made me more confident in my skills as a nurse. Being exposed to various medical conditions of patients in the emergency department makes me assertive in providing quality patient care. Honestly, coming to the U.S. became a whole new world to me in regards to nursing. There were many techniques I had to learn that I was not used to. I also learned that interdepartmental care is vital in a hospital setting, and since I have been here, I am still learning new things everyday to better myself and unlocking potential I never knew I had!"How has your life and your family's life changed for the better? "My family will always be grateful to PassportUSA because PassportUSA guided us every step of the way to achieve my dreams of becoming a U.S. nurse. Starting a new life here is like a fresh start to our lives there are new places to discover, new people to be friends with, a new environment to learn in, and most importantly, a stable job that helps us live a comfortable life."[caption id="attachment_353959" align="aligncenter" width="323"]
