Each month, our International Employee Supervisor Team selects one or two spectacular A-players on assignment to showcase their journey. We asked our healthcare professional to share his or her story of perseverance, adjustment and professional growth.Jennifer is from the Philippines and is currently working at a client facility in South Dakota. She has been working in her field for 11 years and with PassportUSA for almost 1 year.Why did you decide to become a registered nurse? "I took up nursing because I wanted to help people in our community who have disabilities and illnesses. I have always believed that we need to help in creating a change in society, may it be helping the elderly or caring for the sick, it still makes a change in our community. I thought of this as an opportunity for my family to have a better life. I want to motivate our youth to aspire for a better future and a better community and to reach for their goals in life because the sky is the limit. I want to leave an impact to the patients I have taken care of and I want to become an inspiration to them to strive and to know that there is always hope."

Before coming to the US, where did you practice your profession?�"I worked as a volunteer at a general hospital. I also trained at another general hospital. For a short period of time I also worked as a clinic nurse."Why did you want to come to the US? "I persevered to come to the United States because I believe there are more opportunities here for nurses and I wanted a better future for me and my family."How did you first hear of PassportUSA?�"I learned about PassportUSA through a college friend who came to the U.S. to work as an RN through the help of PassportUSA. "Working with my IES is indeed a great honor because she guides me through this experience and assists me with all of the things that I need to prepare. "Life here in the United States is entirely different, however, with God's grace and the help of people from Health Carousel, it became better."How does working in the USA differ from your healthcare career abroad?�"It is a lot different because the resources we used from my previous job and the charting they use here are totally different from what I was used to."How have you grown professionally? "Professionally, I became more confident and more efficient. Being a nurse here is different because you have to adapt to their culture and communication-wise it's a lot different. Nurses here are highly regarded by the society."
