PassportUSA RN Aaron Accelerates His Way to the USA
November 17, 2020
Chances are you have a relative or family friend that has been working in the USA as a nurse for some time. They probably inspired you to become a nurse to help patients and as a means to achieve your #AmericanDream. Most likely they also gave you advice on how to become a USRN. Their advice probably sounded something like this:
- Do well in nursing school.
- Graduate and pass the local board exam.
- Get to work as a staff RN anywhere you can.
- While working, study for and pass the NCLEX and IELTS exams.
- THEN if you have two years of nursing experience, find an agency that will help you get a visa and nursing job in the USA.
WOW! That is a lot to do on your own, but that's the way most agencies still operate. Here is Aaron's story on how the PassportUSA ASPIRE program helped him pass needed exams and expedited his arrival to the USA.
Aaron's USRN Career Began Much Sooner
Meet Aaron, who joined the ASPIRE program and has been working as a USRN in Louisiana since November 2019. Under the traditional pathway outlined above, he would not have even been able to interview with an agency until he had at least two years of experience after graduating from nursing school. That would have been in 2017. Yet, through the PassportUSA ASPIRE program, Aaron was able to interview with us in 2016, with one year of nursing experience! We spoke with Aaron regarding his experiences and here is what he shared:
How did you hear about the ASPIRE program?
"I heard about the program from my classmates in the Philippines. They were interviewing with Health Carousel Philippines and I looked the company up on Facebook."
How soon after graduation did you join the ASPIRE program?
"I joined the program about a few months after graduation. I wanted to make sure I joined early to begin my U.S. journey."
Did you know agencies were helping new graduates to pass NCLEX?
"No, I did not know that. I am glad to have found Health Carousel!"
What perks made you decide to join the ASPIRE program?
"I liked the agreement that Health Carousel sent me. The conditions and benefits are acceptable and legitimate and they walked me through the agreement to make sure I understood every part. They also helped me with NCLEX and provided a lot of study resources."
Would you recommend the ASPIRE program to other recent Filipino nursing graduates?
"Yes, I highly recommend the ASPIRE program to other recent Filipino nursing graduates because they will guide you to pass NCLEX and IELTS, and they will give you a lot of free study materials. You will have a dedicated coach that will keep you on the track to success. The entire staff is nice and they respond promptly. If you start early, the information is still fresh in your mind."
Do you know anyone else that was or is currently in the ASPIRE program?
"Yes, one of my coworkers right now is also in the program. He is working in the U.S. now too."
Why did you choose to work in the U.S.?
"I chose to work in the U.S. because of my aunt. She is already living in the U.S. and advised me to apply early to the program after I graduated from nursing school. She continued to motivate me throughout the visa process."
Who do you want to thank for encouraging you to join the ASPIRE program and why?
"First, I want to thank my classmates for informing me about the ASPIRE program. Secondly, I would like to thank my family and of course, I would like to thank Health Carousel for assisting me throughout the visa process and helping me get to the U.S. to make my American dreams come true. I also want to thank myself for my personal patience and perseverance."
How has your and your family's life changed for the better now that you've been working as a U.S. nurse?
"Our lives have changed a lot! My brother is in the Philippines and is studying nursing. He is inspired by my story and aspires to come to the U.S. someday as well. Now I make enough to support myself financially and it is very self-fulfilling. I am proud to be a U.S. nurse and to be able to own things that I couldn't afford before."
What are three traits that make you a good U.S. nurse?
"I am patient because being a nurse takes a lot of patience with coworkers, patients, and their families. I am always curious and have a willingness to learn. I am also hard-working, because I will help out with other tasks if someone needs help."[caption id="attachment_356122" align="alignnone" width="600"]
