Raymond's Opportunistic USRN Career

Raymond joined the PassportUSA Achieve program and has been working as a USRN in Virginia since July 2019. When we spoke with Raymond regarding his experiences, here is what he shared:

How did you hear about the Achieve program?

"I first heard about the program from one of my former colleagues in the Philippines. He completed the PassportUSA program this year and is still working as an RN in Tennessee."

What made you decide to join the Achieve program?

"Being a nurse was already a part of my dream, and when I talked to my former colleague, he told me the program was a wonderful experience and that PassportUSA is a good agency to join."

What kind of training did you utilize to pass IELTS?

"I utilized the free study resources that PassportUSA provided to me, such as online modules and videos. It was very helpful and flexible for my schedule."

What training did you utilize to pass NCLEX?

"I enrolled in an in-person class for NCLEX review for about two months. I studied every day and took several online practice tests."

Would you recommend other nurses to sign up for Achieve right away?

"Absolutely. I recommend nurses to be focused and then go for it because PassportUSA will be glad to help you."

How did you feel the response time was for your inquiries regarding the program?

"The response time was great! They are very thorough and professional with their answers and they check on you from time to time to see how things are doing."

What/who inspired you to pursue your American Dream?

"My sister and her husband moved to the U.S. in the early 90s. It was her childhood dream to become a nurse, so she enrolled in a U.S. nursing class, passed NCLEX, and she'd call me back in the Philippines and tell me about her profession so that influenced me to become a nurse as well."

How has your family's life changed for the better now that you've been working as a U.S. nurse?

"My life turned 180-degrees for the better. I am able to buy things I always dreamed of, such as a brand new car. Buying a house is one of the next major things on my wish list. I work a standard amount of hours here and have the opportunity for overtime. I have more leisure time to spend with my family and I lead a balanced work-life."

What do you hope to accomplish in your U.S. nursing career and personal life within 5 years?

"I aspire to become a nurse practitioner and a nurse manager someday. I look forward to advancing my USRN career."

What are the three qualities of yours that make you a good U.S. nurse?

"I am resilient to succeed in my goals, I am determined to learn more about my specialty, and I stay positive to not get bogged down trying to adapt to new protocols and technologies."

Who/what motivates you currently to continue being a spectacular U.S. nurse?

"My family continues to motivate me. I am thankful for my wife and our son for being by my side as we venture further into our American journeys."

Who do you want to thank for encouraging you to join the Achieve program and why?

"I really want to thank my former colleague from the Philippines for telling me about PassportUSA and for being a living testament to this agency's success. I am so glad to be part of this program as well and we cannot thank you and PassportUSA enough. Kudos to you all."

What advice do you have for candidates that are thinking about joining the program?

"Everyone should be 100% committed to what they want to achieve. It is normal to come across roadblocks to make you feel like giving up already, but that is normal for any goal. Once you get through all the hurdles, you will feel like you can accomplish anything!"[caption id="attachment_355944" align="aligncenter" width="778"]
