Maintaining A Healthy Work-Life Balance

November 8, 2019

While adjusting to your new life in the US, you may find yourself super busy and stressed about juggling your work and personal life. Here are a few tips from PassportUSA to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Work Life

Be on time

Prepare your work and lunch bag ahead of time so it's ready to quickly grab out the door. Before you start driving, use a navigation app such as Waze to check traffic conditions for the most optimal commute route.

Efficiency

Be efficient in your time at work. Try to group patient care tasks if applicable and take your breaks at work to relax. Set aside time to finish charting so you don't stay past your shift to complete it.

Teamwork

Communicating effectively and cooperatively with your team members will help your days go smoother.

Taking constructive criticism well

Don't be afraid to ask questions to learn how you can improve so you can better assist in needed areas.

Personal Life

Organize

Keep a schedule of your upcoming shifts and your house and family priorities. Plan out meals, grocery shopping, chores, and errands so you are not winging things last minute. Consider meal prepping or doing laundry when you get home so you don't have to do all your chores on your day off. In addition, remaining flexible to unexpected events is a part of everyday life.

Stay on top of your finances

You should know how much you need to pay for bills and necessities and you should plan on how much you should save and how much you have to spend on leisure.

Treat your body right

Are you maintaining a healthy diet with regular exercise? This can affect your mood at all times. Think about how you could improve your diet and exercise time so you can think rationally, positively, and stay in shape. Meditation helps calm nerves and reduce current stress. Getting a sufficient amount of sleep is crucial for your next day stamina.

Employee Assistance Program

Do you know we have an EAP? This is free of charge to contracted working employees with your Health Carousel benefits. You get unlimited access online to legal resources such as landlord/tenant relations, work-life services and resources such as maternity leave or managing stress and anxiety, and financial tools such as short and long-term budgeting or using financial calculators.

Keep in touch

Don't forget to talk to your friends and family regularly and catch up on what's been going on in your lives.

Don't over-commit your social life

Remember, even if you have a free day or night, you don't have to say yes to attending an outing or activity during your free time if you don't want to.

Do what makes you happy

Make a list of hobbies and activities that you like to do in your free time. Refer to this on your time off and set goals that you want to accomplish on your next time off.
