The SMART framework is a widely used approach to setting goals that are clear, attainable, and measurable. SMART is an acronym that stands for:

- Time-bound

S – Specific
A specific goal is clear and unambiguous. Instead of saying, "I want to advance in my career," specify exactly what advancement looks like for you. Maybe you want to "gain certification in medical coding" or "improve bedside communication skills." Being specific makes it easier to map out the steps you need to take.
Example: “I want to complete a professional certification course in radiology.”
M – Measurable
