Each month, our International Employee Supervisor Team selects one or two spectacular A-players on assignment to showcase their journey. We asked our healthcare professional to share his or her story of perseverance, adjustment, and professional growth.
Millicent is from the Philippines and is currently working at a client facility in West Virginia. She has been working in her field for 15 years and has been with PassportUSA for over one year.
Why did you decide to become a physical therapist? “Being a physical therapist is a very rewarding profession. I love how we can help someone and their family improve their quality of life and reach maximum potential.”
Before coming to the U.S., where did you practice your profession? “I worked in an outpatient rehab under a private hospital in the Philippines. I also worked as a part-time professor at a private physical therapy school. ”
Why did you want to come to the U.S.? “Aside from the pursuit of financial stability, I know I have more opportunities to grow in my profession here in the U.S. I also like to go out of my comfort zone and challenge myself in a new environment.”
How did you first hear of PassportUSA? “I learned about Health Carousel through my colleagues. Also, one of my clinical staff members shared with me how Health Carousel helped her achieved her American dream and I was inspired because of that.”
How is your experience working with your PassportUSA International Employee Supervisor (IES) so far? “Angela, my IES, is one of the most amazing people I’ve met. I am so lucky to have her. Since day one, she’s been helping, assisting, listening, and guiding me inside and outside of work. She always makes sure everything is going well with my work and life outside work.”
Would you recommend PassportUSA to other people and why? “Yes, I would definitely recommend them. They helped me achieved my American dream. They are very true to their commitment. They helped me every step of the way.”
How has your life/your family’s life changed for the better? “I am happy where I am right now. I feel like I am growing as a physical therapist and as a person. Now I can support my family and help my parents live comfortably.”
How does working in the U.S. differ from your healthcare career abroad? “Working in the US as a physical therapist has more responsibility but at the same time more rewarding because I am acknowledged here as a doctor. Honestly, being called a doctor is very heart-fluttering. I feel like my clinical judgment improved. Attending seminars and training helped hone my skills. It also made me realize that being a physical therapist is life-long learning.”
What is your favorite inspirational quote? “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
Thank you Millicent for sharing your amazing journey so far. We appreciate your hard work and dedication in your profession and our company!
