Eric, a RN working in CVICU at a PassportUSA client hospital in Indiana, received an outstanding annual performance review from his nurse manager that we just had to share.

Eric scored an average of 4.75 out of 5 stars on his latest review measuring 8 critical dimensions of nursing success, and his clinical manager had some great comments we just had to share.

“Eric is an asset to our team. He is extremely knowledgeable and skilled with his patient care. I would like him to teach more. He provides excellent care so that would be fantastic. I love having him on the unit and as part of our healthcare team because he is so positive and refreshing.”

Further Insight on Foreign-Trained Nurses

With comments like the one above we dug deeper into what makes him, like so many other internationally trained nurses, a welcome addition to his U.S. nursing team. Here’s further insight from Eric’s nurse manager.

What advice would you give to other U.S. healthcare facilities considering using foreign-trained nurses?
“These nurses are exceptional caregivers, extremely reliable, and knowledgeable in the care they provide. They are compassionate and treat everyone with a high degree of respect and regard. They never have any complaints about being over whelmed or having a bad day. They are a fabulous addition to our healthcare team. ”

In your opinion, what are the best qualities of internationally-educated nurses?
“They do not complain, they are always on time, willing to help everyone, are great under pressure, and just genuinely enjoy their job.”

In what areas/job-functions do they initially require the most assistance?
“Communication. Initially they can be quiet individuals.”

“They do not complain, they are always on time, willing to help everyone, are great under pressure, and just genuinely enjoy their job.”

In your experience, how long does it take for a foreign-trained nurse to be able to perform similarly to a U.S.-educated RN?
“They function as well as a U.S. nurse within the first 6 months of being here on the floor.”
