The U.S. holiday season starts with Thanksgiving day and lasts all the way into the New Year (January 1). During this time frame, there are many holidays taking place such as Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and the New Year.

How do we celebrate the holiday season in the U.S.?

It varies by individuals’ traditions and choice. Most people take some time off from work, some will visit their family and friends and eat special meals, and some people will give gifts to each other. Others find it especially important to share their good fortune with the less fortunate through volunteering at food pantries or through programs such as Toys for Tots.

On New Year’s eve, people reflect on all they’ve accomplished during the previous year. There are parties on New Year’s Eve in anticipation of staying awake until midnight, when the New Year officially starts and fireworks light up the sky in local neighborhoods and on national television. Some people create resolutions to accomplish personal goals for the next year.
